Though a relatively young instrument, the electric bass transcends the spectrum of genres--whether it’s rock, blues, reggae, pop, hip-hop, jazz, metal, or country, you can count on a bass player being present in the band. In fact, every great band has a great bass player, and almost every catchy song has a bumpin’ bassline. In this session, we will explore why that is the case and how we can incorporate bass playing into our Modern Band classrooms. The goal of this session is to bring out everyone’s inner bassist. To do so, we will focus on simple approaches to getting started, fundamental aspects of building a good bassline, and tips/tricks to make you and your students sound like bonafide groove machines.
