Lessons that are sequential and build on students’ musical skills will make the Little Kids Rock curriculum even more effective in your classroom. This presentation is geared towards teachers who are just starting out their modern band program at the elementary school level. The first part of the presentation focuses on setting goals and strategies for the first weeks of your Little Kids Rock program, including routines for classroom management, setting up your classroom and equipment, and how to introduce the first modern band song. Next, we will focus on the first chord changes and suggestions on songs that can be played using one to three chords. We will also discuss how to run a successful jam session with your students and how to differentiate instruction so that all levels can have a musical experience. Finally, we will focus on advanced skills for your students such as introducing guitar tabs, improvising, and power chords. Attendees of this workshop will leave with a better understanding on how to use the LKR resources to establish their LKR music program in an elementary classroom as well as knowledge on how to adapt their lessons to their students needs.
